About Us
We are Kalahi (pronounced Kah-lah-hee), and we are the Filipino Organization of Cal State University, Los Angeles. Our mission statement is to:

- To promote Pilipino culture through a variety of events and provide a sense of community for students to create everlasting memories.

The word Kalahi in Tagalog, which is the national language of the Philippines, means "of the same race." We, as the Filipino organization of Cal State University, Los Angeles, are here to welcome all into our community and hope to invite everyone to learn the culture of the Philippines. Together with the campus of CSULA, we hope to welcome and invite everyone to collaborate and make a campus welcomed for all!
Our History
Formerly known as Buklod, the Filipino club was re-established in 2016 as Kalahi under the founding President, John Roferos. He sought to build a foundation from which we can establish a visible Filipino community on campus. The aim is to to connect Filipinos, Filipino-Americans, and others who share the love of all things Filipino at CalState LA.

With the original goal being:

- "To foster relationships through an inclusive social setting for learning about the Filipino culture."

We also hope that one day, we will generate enough interest to create a Filipino History & Culture course at Cal State LA!

Since our re-establishment, we went through years experiencing and experimenting with many different views and ways to better our organization and improve our involvement with our community. In Fall 2016, we experienced our first Friendship Games and had an incredible time meeting other Filipino organizations within Southern California.

As for every year, we hope to begin strong and end with a bigger family than we had before. We hope to create an inviting community that welcomes all into our great, big Filipino family where we can all collaborate and work together to explore the culture of the Philippines.
